BIO
George Keburia founded his fun-loving eponymous label in 2015. What’s unique about the designer is that he’s entirely self-taught – he’s never stepped foot inside a fashion school.
Instead, following his parents’ planned trajectory, he studied to work in business management before giving into his real calling to design, which he has mastered through his own mistakes and experiences.
For his debut collection, presenting a surrealist collection saturated with fantastical references and outlandish concepts, George Keburia was awarded the ‘Best Newcomer’ Award at Tbilisi Fashion Week. Two years later, Keburia achieved recognition with his capsule collection “Bird Nest”, winning the design contest Be Next 2012 in Tbilisi and the Community’s Choice Muuse x Vogue Talents Vision Award.
In 2013, George became a designer at Fashion House Materiel, creating collections for the brand for two years. In fall 2017, George Keburia was selected among six designers worldwide to showcase their SS18 collections during Milan Fashion Week and participate in Vogue Talents x Swarovski Project. In September 2018, George Keburia presented his first SS19 collection within the official Paris Fashion Week schedule.
George Keburia is widely considered as one of the pioneers of the local fashion scene and managed to quickly make it to the top of the Georgian fashion. The designer has made good use of the spotlight. Growing up and starting his career in turbulent Georgia, he has brought through his designs a multitude of socio-political issues to the fore, among them addressing homophobia and aftermath of the 90s civil war.
The designer’s growing success and fan base are not limited to the region, as he has often been featured in magazines like Vogue, W Magazine, Harper’s Bazaar, and i-D, and his pieces have been worn by the likes of Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Rosalia, Miley Cyrus, Camila Cabello, and the Kardashian-Jenner family, to name a few.
BRAND INTRODUCTION:
KEBURIA is a womenswear and accessories label designed and handcrafted in Tbilisi, Georgia. The self-taught designer founded his fun-loving eponymous label in 2015.
Over the years, the brand has evolved into a visual and thematic overload of the modern feminine, with a playful attitude towards exaggerated shapes, colours, and styles.
Collections of KEBURIA represent a modern interpretation of femininity with exaggerated forms, flowy silhouettes and synthesis of heavy and light fabrics. Sculpturally tailored pieces are rooted in classic elegance with a vintage vibe, while still subversive enough to look cutting- edge.
Mixing masculine elements and feminine classiness, with voluminous lines and a minimal design, collections of KEBURIA aim to go beyond the functionality of clothing, offering a sense of fashion escapism.
Affirming the brand’s commitment to sustainability, KEBURIA practices a zero-waste overproduction business model, as well as offering items made to order – significantly reducing consumption and production waste. Going forward the brand is putting goals in place to explore more sustainable material options and improve its environmental footprint season by season.
