Lado Bokuchava has a lot on his plate as of late. After a several-year stint at Tbilisi-based house Atelier Kikala, where he was known for his knitwear, he’s now spearheading his own line and also designing for another Georgian house, Matériel. This season at his own label, he focused on a clean fabric palette and ’80s-style dresses. Many of the pieces boasted a squiggly print that recalled JW Anderson’s Spring 2016 collection, as well the Ukrainian designer Anna October’s Fall 2017 outing. If it was overly familiar, the print worked well as a detail, as, for example, on the collar of a canary yellow coat.
Big silhouettes looked best here, like the elongated, broad-shouldered blazer nipped at the waist and a black top with a large cape addition. Bokuchava seems to still be defining his identity, but a lone pair of wide-leg green crinkly trousers showed that he might soon find his footing.
