All of Tbilisi’s coolest women congregate on Djaba Diassamidze’s stage. They love the Paris-based Georgian haute couturier for his dramatic, intimate shows. This season, Diassamidze took a particularly personal approach: He adjusted and preened models as they walked on stage. The act, although really just an act, did convey how much consideration he has not only for the bodies, but also the personalities, of his buyers. Take Tbilisi cool girl Nini Nebieridze, who recently had a baby and is now pregnant again: She was glowing in a body-con patent leather dress, just forgiving enough in the stomach to show off her second baby bump. Diassamidze’s fellow Georgian designerKetevane Maissaia looked effortlessly cool in a pair of jeans with a strapless leather bustier and a black silk skirt. One stunning piece was a wide-brimmed black hat that had safety pins meticulously placed around the brim’s edge, creating a glimmer that was especially beautiful.
On an atmospheric note, Diassamidze closed the show with all of his models swaying on stage, singing “We Are the World.” He’s a serious designer, but he also knows how to make sure his fans have a good time in his clothes.
