Datuna is known mainly for its black eveningwear. A typical show can reach over 40 looks, but as beautiful as some of the pieces are, the collection itself is a lot to process, given that the overall color is black. The best pieces here had a dollop of contrast. A cloud-like white floral arrangement tacked onto the shoulder of a cocktail number added some nice variety, while a white silk robe dress looked extremely elegant. The black blazers with Balenciaga-type proportions—exaggerated below the waist—were repetitive and got lost in the shuffle.
When there was color, it was a very welcome change. Towards the finale, a radiant yellow hue appeared in the form of a large evening gown with a massive skirt. It was a standout, quite literally. But over-the-top effects aren’t really necessary to pack a punch. Made in collaboration with the Georgian label Muzaradi, a simple white silk hood decorated with delicate fringe had just enough oomph to turn heads.
