Designer Anouki Areshidze’s shows are typically packed, but her latest, set at the massive Expo Georgia, felt even more crowded than usual. That might have had to do with the fact that her husband, Kakha Kaladze, a soccer player turned politician, was recently elected the mayor of Tbilisi. Some people are now referring to Areshidze as the First Lady of Tbilisi. Talk of the town aside, the designer is one of the few who has enjoyed consistent success outside of Eastern Europe. She sells at Moda Operandi and held a well-attended presentation in Milan in September.
Clothing-wise, she upped the glint this season, coating trousers and skirts in silver sequins. The effect was busy when paired with anything printed, but it worked when a white wrap dress was layered over a spangly turtleneck. One thing customers can count on from Areshidze is her footwear. It’s pretty, decorated, and smile inducing. A pair of white kitten-heel pumps with bejeweled tassels was just what the collection needed for it to come together.
